Young people in the job market – challenges and perspectives in the AI era

Table of contents

The technology market is developing at a rapid pace, and AI is becoming an integral part of it. For young people entering the IT world, this brings both enormous opportunities and new challenges. How to prepare for these changes? We look for answers in the latest research.

AI: Everyday life with a need for deeper understanding

The report “AI Generation: Young Poles in the digital labor market” prepared by Talent Days and Microsoft in 2025 , clearly shows that artificial intelligence is already our daily reality.

  • Widespread use of AI: Over 97% of young Poles use AI-based tools. What’s more, about 40% of them use AI daily or several times a day, both in their private and professional lives. This is proof of the growing adoption of technology.
  • Lack of formal knowledge: Despite widespread use, young people often do not feel like experts in using AI. The majority rate their skills as average (27%) or good (43%). The problem is that declared knowledge of ethics, regulations, or biases related to AI is low or average. What’s more, almost 1/4 of respondents declare a complete lack of knowledge in the areas of sustainable development (24%) and data privacy (25%).
  • Educational gap: Why is this happening? It turns out that schools and universities do not fully prepare them for using AI – as many as 60% of respondents state that education has not equipped them with these skills.
  • Self-learning: Young people learn primarily independently, through practice (74%) and from social media (57%). This shows that the younger generation is actively creating their competency path, but they lack systematic support.

Concerns and expectations: how young people see AI in the workplace?

Young Poles approach AI with some caution, but they also see its potential.

  • Positive attitude with concerns: Although over half (55%) perceive the impact of AI on their future career positively , they also have concerns. The most frequently indicated threats are job loss due to automation (35%) and the risk of errors and incorrect decisions made by AI (34%).
  • Critical approach: Interestingly, young people do not blindly trust AI-generated content – over 70% evaluate the reasoning logic (72%) , look for potential errors (75%) , and check data sources (61%). They treat AI as a tool, not an expert.
  • Expectations of employers: Above all, real support in developing AI competencies.
    • As many as 61% of respondents expect access to AI tools.
    • Over 40% expect internal training (44%) and funding for external courses (41%).
    • 39% expect time for learning during working hours.
  • Key skills: According to young people, the key skills in the AI job market are:
    • Using AI to automate routine tasks (58%).
    • Data analysis (35%).
    • Effective prompt formulation (34%).
  • AI in recruitment: Young people appreciate companies that use AI (this is an asset for 67% of respondents). However, they do not want AI to replace human contact, especially in assessing soft skills (53% rate negatively) or during preliminary recruitment interviews conducted by chatbots (61% rate negatively). They value AI as support, but expect a human to be at the center of the process.
