Free qualified electronic signature in mObywatel!

Table of contents

Remember those days when you had to print, sign, scan, and mail documents? That is finally becoming a thing of the past! As of October 23, 2025, the mObywatel app has finally launched a free qualified electronic signature service. Poland is the first country in the European Union to provide such a feature within a government application. For all of us, this marks a massive shift and a real improvement in daily operations!

What is a qualified signature and why is it so important?

A qualified electronic signature is the digital equivalent of your handwritten signature. It is recognized across the entire European Union and—most importantly for us—it carries the same legal weight as a traditional signature on paper. The National Labour Inspectorate (PIP) and labor courts are legally required to accept it.

Thanks to this, we can seamlessly sign documents that require a written form, such as:

  • Employment contracts or civil law contracts.
  • Contract amendments (Annexes).

Please note that this free version is primarily intended for private use. This means it is perfect for individual documents, but it cannot be used for mass-scale signing or logging into commercial business systems.

5 Benefits that will make life easier

This change offers nothing but advantages, both for you as our employee and for us at IT CONNECT:

  1. Legal Validity: A document signed with a qualified signature holds the same weight as a traditional one, ensuring legal certainty and security.
  2. Convenience and Speed: You can sign a document anywhere, at any time, using your smartphone—no more trips to the post office!
  3. Security: The signature certificate guarantees the authenticity of your signature and the integrity of the document.
  4. Free of Charge: All you need is the updated mObywatel app and an e-ID (e-dowód). This solution is free—neither you nor we incur any costs.
  5. Universality: The signature is recognized throughout the European Union.

How to get started?

To enjoy this new feature and sign documents quickly, you only need three things:

  • A smartphone with NFC capability.
  • The latest version of the mObywatel app.
  • An e-ID (e-Dowód) – an ID card issued after March 4, 2019 (the ones with an electronic chip).

The service allows you to sign 5 documents per month for free. This limit is more than enough to handle routine HR and administrative matters.
